Brahms Bombshell in Brevard

Fifteen-year-old pianist Maria Parrini, a rising junior and third-year music student at the Fine Arts Center, has been named one of four winners in the Brevard Concerto Competition at Brevard Music Center. There were 13 finalists in the competition, three of whom were high school students. Maria was the only high school student to win. She will perform Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra on July 29, 2012.

Talent in TOWN

The current issue of TOWN magazine reads like a who's who of Fine Arts Center-related talent. Five of the writers who contributed to the Sense of Place cover story have ties to FAC. George Singleton, Claire Bateman, Scott Gould and John Lane are former FAC faculty. Sarah Blackman is the current creative writing teacher. The photography for the story is by FAC alumnus Paul Mehaffey.

FAC Dance Student Successes

Jacqueline Calle with her NHSDA award
FAC dance student Jacqueline Calle is having quite a summer! She was a finalist for the National Honor Society for Dance Arts' Artistic Merit, Leadership and Academic Achievement Award. Her audition piece for that award, entitled "Upon Oblivion," can be seen here.
Jacki was also admitted to the American Dance Festival's Six Week Summer Intensive, held annually at Duke University. She will be performing July 23-25 in one of ADF's "most exciting performances," its Footprints program, in a piece choreographed by Helen Simoneu.
FAC dance student Mireille Fehler is also attending a summer intensive at the Nashville Ballet, where she is a Level Six student (Level Seven is comprised of professional dancers) and is finding the experience wonderfully challenging and incredibly valuable.
