Great things going on at the Fine Arts Center!
Three senior students from the Fine Arts Center (pianist, Maria Parrini; violinist, Paul Aguilar; and cellist, Stephen Hawkey; collectively known as the Chanté Piano Trio), have been selected as participants in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. It is the only national chamber music competition with a high school division. The senior division of the competition, with participants up to the age of 35, typically features representatives from 22 different nations. The competition is held on the campus of Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, May 9-11. The students will perform Beethoven's Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1, No. 3; Brahms' Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, Op. 8; and the premiere of Times in a Place by Fine Arts Center faculty member, Dr. Jon Grier.
Katherine Woo is one of six finalists invited to the PepsiCo National Young Artist Competition in Charleston, SC. The winner will be featured as a concerto soloist with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. The competition takes place on April 25, 2014.
The Crescent Music Club of Greenville hosted their annual scholarship competition on Saturday, March 22. Stephen Hawkey was a double winner, placing first in the Senior Piano Division, and first as a cellist in the Orchestral Instruments Division. He was awarded a $1000 scholarship in each division. Violinist Paul Aguilar won an $800 scholarship for his second place finish in the Orchestral Instruments Division. Junior pianist, Yu-Jung Jeon won first place in the Junior Division.
